FAQ

About Point Delgada

Is Point Delgada a fishing company?

No. Point Delgada is an independent clothing brand. We design heavyweight tees, caps, hoodies and camp mugs inspired by the commercial fishing culture of California's Lost Coast.

Where is Point Delgada based?

Point Delgada is run from Califronia Our products are made to order by specialist print and embroidery partners and shipped worldwide.

Why the name Point Delgada?

Point Delgada is a narrow headland on California's Lost Coast ("delgada" means narrow in Spanish). It shelters the small harbor at Shelter Cove, on one of the most remote stretches of the California coast, and the fishing culture around it inspires our designs.

What is the F/V Ironwright?

An imagined boat, a composite of the steel longliners and trawlers that work the Pacific coast. She exists on paper, not on the water, and many of our schematics, stencils and hull lines are drawn from her.

What are Fleet Issues and Standard Issue?

Fleet Issues are our numbered design drops, each built around a single idea from the working waterfront. Standard Issue is our core collection, available year-round.

What are your t-shirts made of?

Our tees are 100% ring-spun cotton at 6.1 oz/yd² (206.8 g/m²), with a 7/8″ double-needle topstitched collar, twill-taped neck and shoulders, and double-needle armholes, sleeves and hems. Ring-spun cotton gives a dense, durable fabric that stays breathable.

Are your t-shirts garment-dyed?

Yes. Garment dyeing happens after the shirt is sewn, which gives a softer, broken-in feel from the first wear and a slightly lived-in color, so no two shirts look exactly alike. The color softens gently over time, which is part of the look.

How do your t-shirts fit?

A relaxed, classic fit with room through the shoulders. They're cut to men's sizing, so if you usually wear women's sizes or prefer a closer fit, size down one. See our size guide for exact measurements.

Are your t-shirts unisex?

Yes. All our tees, hoodies and polos are unisex and cut to men's sizing.

How should I wash my tee?

Machine wash cold, inside out, with like colors to protect the print and the garment dye. Tumble dry low or line dry. Don't bleach, and don't iron directly on the print.

Will my tee shrink?

Very little. Garment-dyed tees are washed during production, so shrinkage is minimal if you wash cold and tumble dry low. Our hoodies use pre-shrunk cotton blends.

Are the graphics distressed?

Most of our graphics are clean stencil and schematic work. A few designs, like the Bear Crest, use a deliberately worn texture that's part of the print. Each product page shows exactly what you'll get.

What are your hoodies made of?

50% pre-shrunk cotton and 50% polyester [Heather Navy: 40/60], at 8.0 oz/yd² (271 g/m²). They have air-jet spun yarn, a double-lined hood and 1×1 rib-knit cuffs with spandex.

Do your hoodies pill?

Air-jet spun yarn significantly reduces pilling, so they keep a clean look after repeated washing. Washing inside out on a cool, gentle cycle helps even more.

Should I size up in the hoodie?

Our hoodies are true to size. If you plan to layer over a thick sweater or under a rain shell, size up one.

What are the polos like?

A classic-fit piqué polo in 100% combed ring-spun cotton [Grey Melange: 85% cotton, 15% viscose], 6.2 oz/yd² (210 g/m²), with a ribbed collar, a straight hem with side slits and a tone-on-tone three-button placket.

What are the specs of the Deck Trucker Hat?

A structured, mid-profile 6-panel trucker in 26% cotton and 74% polyester, with hard buckram front panels, a mesh back for ventilation, a Permacurv® visor, a plastic snap closure and a 3.5″ crown.

How is the Low-Profile Cap different?

It's unstructured and sits lower: a 6-panel cap in 100% chino cotton twill [Camo: 35/65 poly-cotton blend], with six embroidered eyelets, a 3⅛″ crown and an adjustable strap with an antique buckle. It breaks in faster and feels softer than the trucker.

What head sizes do your hats fit?

Both hats are adjustable and fit head circumferences from 54.9 to 60 cm (21⅝″ to 23⅝″).

Can I wear Point Delgada for actual work on the water?

You can, and heavyweight cotton holds up well to hard wear and frequent washing. But our pieces are casual clothing, not technical, waterproof or protective gear. For real deck work, wear them under proper foul-weather gear.

Which colors are available?

Colors vary by product and are shown on each product page.
